General characteristics of BOD_X software are:
- with only one program users can search into available dictionaries, build his own dictionary, input tibetan text while searching in dictionaries for the translation;
- from Tibetan to English (or any other western language) dictionary is possible to build the "dictionary" of English words to Tibetan;
- is based on (extended) Wylie, users can define "shortcuts" to complex Tibetan syllables built with a "visual stack builder";
- is easy to install, just copy EXE and DLL;
- runs on Windows, Linux with WINE and MAC;
- is free.

BOD_X_UNI version using Tibetan Unicode was developed and tested on Windows 2000 with the Tibetan Machine Uni font from The Tibetan & Himalayan Digital Library - University of Virgina.
