Join Our List to Get All News:
The best way to stay abreast of news about the software, and especially of further
support for Macintosh and Linux, is to
join our Padma Karpo Translation Committee list at
Yahoo. We post all notifications about updates and full information about new
features, fixes, and changes in the software on the list. You can post questions there, too. You
can also ask questions about Tibetan language, Buddhist studies, and so on. Note that the list is
moderated so there is no spam or garbage posted.
Macintosh and Linux:
Most of our development work has focussed on the Windows platform because a lot more
people use Windows for Tibetan studies than the Macintosh and Linux. We have two main products for
Windows. One is TibetD Reader and the other TibetDoc.
TibetD Reader is the software provided with all of our dictionaries, texts,
and reference works. We have a version of TibetD Reader for both the Macintosh and Linux platforms. It
is simpler in design that the one for Windows but is still very functional. At the moment, we have three
dictionaries that come with this version of TibetD Reader: The Illuminator, Sarat Chandra Das, and Geshe
Chodrak dictionaries.
We have many texts and other dictionaries available on our PKTC
site besides the three mentioned above that are not directly supported on Macintosh and Linux using our TibetD
Reader software. Many Mac users like to purchase one of our Windows products with TibetD Reader and run it
under Parallels, etc. They then have access to the whole range of free texts that we provide on our PKTC
site. Using Parallels or other virtual Windows software is a very realistic way for Mac users to gain
access to the large amounts of work that has gone into programming our Windows software and all of the texts
and reference works that go with it. Again, we do not have a solution for Linux users though
some of our customers have said that they can make our Windows products work successfully under Linux.
Our other main product for Windows is our wordprocessor and pecha-maker called TibetDoc. There is no
equivalent available, nor envisaged for, either the Macintosh or Linux. However, TibetDoc can be
used flawlessly on the Macintosh by running it under Parallels or one of the other Virtual PC programs
that are available for the Macintosh products. This kind of setup has been tested by us and many
of our customers and it does work flawlessly. We do not have a solution for Linux users though
some of our customers have said that they can make our Windows products work successfully under Linux.

both platforms, see our updates page.
